Stephenie Meyer
In June of 2003, Stephenie Meyer had a dream about a human girl and a vampire boy who were in love. This dream was the first inkling of the novel “Twilight,” which would ultimately become one of the biggest phenomenons in the literary world and the fandom realm. Stephenie did not have plans to become an author and simply wrote the story of Twilight for her own personal enjoyment. However, after encouragement from her sister, she decided to send out the manuscript to literary agencies. She sent out fifteen letters and after nine rejections and five no replies, Stephenie finally received a positive response from Jodi Reamer of Writers House. Following a 2003 auction, in November, Stephenie signed a $750 thousand three-book deal with Little, Brown and Company. Following the success of her debut novel “Twilight”, three more novels in the series followed. Twilight went on to land a film adaptation, of which its success guaranteed more films for the rest of the series.
Stephenie released her first sci-fi adult novel titled, The Host in May of 2008 , The idea for this novel came to her while she was driving from Phoenix to Salt Lake City. Stephenie came up with the idea out of boredom during the long and arduous drive. The Host, as Stephenie states, is “science fiction for people who do not like science fiction.” The Host was an instant success and in September 2009, Stephenie announced on her website that The Host would follow in the Twilight franchise’s footsteps and would be made into a film. In November 2009, Stephenie reported that she would like to “spend more time with her aliens” and that she would be going back to the series and writing sequels.
Stephenie was born on December 24th, 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut. She attended Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she received a B.A. in English in 1997. She met her husband “Pancho” in Arizona and they were married in 1994. The Meyers currently have three sons named Gabe, Seth, and Eli.
