After bringing Melanie back with the help from Ian and Jared, Wanda visits Jamie in the hospital. She’s frantic over what to do. All that can be done is to lay ice packs on him to bring down the fever. Jared is also saddened into silence for Jamie. Melanie on the other hand, is angry. She wants them to go back out and find some drugs for him. Wanda counters this by saying that even if they found drugs, there was no guarantee that it will work. What Jamie needs is soul medicine. Wanderer reveals her plan to retrieve soul medication to everyone in the room, but they all protest as there are too many souls in the hospitals. The humans are sure that if they attempt the plan, they’ll be caught and turned into souls. Wanderer replies with, “You can’t. But I can..”
Wanderer is excited about the prospect of this plan, but the human are not so pleased. Kyle makes accusations towards her, Doc tells her that Jamie is strong enough to fight off the infection, while Ian assures her that eventually they will go out and find medication for him. Wanderer pleads her case to Jared, knowing that he wants Jamie saved just as much as she does. “Jared,” she says, “You know I would never let anything hurt Jamie. You know I can do this. Please.. But Jared’s reply is a no.
Wanderer begins sobbing Jamie’s name while rearranging the ice packets around him. Slowly, the humans in the room start to leave. Wanderer remains and she stays with Jamie the entire night, taking care of him. Suddenly, Doc screams out. A figure comes into the light and it is Jared who has come back to go through with Wanderer’s plan.
Jared blindfolds Wanda and they run to the jeep. Once in the car, they start driving toward Tucson. Jared gives Wanderer a suicide pill to consume in the case that the souls catch her. After some more driving, the pair switch to a less conspicuous car and Wanda changes into less conspicuous clothes. But then she realizes the scars on her face may give her away since if she was a “normal” soul, she would have had any injuries taken care of. She tells Jared that he is going to have to hit her in order to stay under cover.
