On June 20, 2011 it was announced that Open Road Films had acquired the US distribution rights to The Host. You may not have heard of Open Road, because it was only recently formed and is a distribution company formed by theater chains Regal and AMC. Open Road apparently beat out at least 3 other distributors for the seven-figure minimum guarantee on The Host deal, which includes a “healthy” publicity and advertising commitment from the company. Open Road Films currently distributes DVD, Blu-ray, and other digital platforms through Universal Studios Home Entertainment which is also the American home distributor of Summit Entertainment, distributor of the Twilight films.
At the Cannes Film Festival in May 2011, The Host was met with a flurry of offers from international distribution companies. The following distributors have obtained rights to The Host:
