Checking In

I just wanted to let everyone know that this site is most definitely not dead. We continue to scout for news daily, but there just hasn’t been anything to report. We decided long ago to keep the focus of this site only on The Host and not on Stephenie Meyer’s other projects, so we’re sorry that things are slow, but there’s just nothing new we can tell you about The Host movie or potential sequels. There’s just no news at the moment besides a rumor or two that do not seem credible. We don’t want to report on rumors until they come from a more trusted source.

So, we’re here. Sorry we can’t do more to slake your thirst for The Host news, but since actual filming is supposed to start in about 6 months, news should pick up very soon. Keep checking back!

 


New Gallery Layout

It’s past time for us to change the Gallery layout, so the oh-so-wonderful, friend of the site, Ana made us a truly gorgeous header.

(She made it before any news of Saoirse Ronan’s casting had been announced, so the layout features fan-favorite Sophia Bush. Since Ronan’s casting has not been confirmed by an official press release from Chockstone Pictures or Inferno Entertainment, we don’t want to get our hopes up by putting her in all our layouts just yet anyway.)

In addition, we updated the version of the Coppermine gallery to the latest version, so enjoy the new ease of the system.

So check out the newly beautified The Host Fan Gallery, which currently hosts almost 500 pieces of fanart from icons to wallpapers to banners and more! While you’re there, feel free to register and upload your own work.

As soon as we have confirmation of Saoirse Ronan’s casting – hopefully soon – we’ll begin adding pictures of her as well. :)

 


Saoirse Ronan talks with BBC Newsbeat about ‘The Host’

While promoting her new movie Hanna in a recent interview with BBC Newsbeat, Saoirse was asked about her involvement in The Host, and again didn’t give any definitive answers about it. However, she did express her desire to work on it, and acknowledged how excited the fandom is about the potential casting:

As for what’s next, Ronan says things are very much “just floating around in the air” although she is in talks to star in The Host, an upcoming film adaptation of the novel by Stephanie Meyer (who wrote the Twilight series).

She said: “It would be great if it worked out. People seem to be quite excited about it.”

So in short, nothing new. Nothing is set in stone, but if an actress as talented as Saoirse wants in, it shouldn’t be too hard to get her officially on board. With the Cannes Film Festival around the corner (in which Deadline reported that The Host will be promoted to potential buyers) things are sure to firm up soon.

We’ve updated the Movie section of our site and now have a Cast page that features Saoirse’s biography. As we get more cast members officially on board, we will update it accordingly. Head over and check it out!

 


Sorry for the Service Hiccup

Sorry to any of you who may have tried to visit the site today and saw an ad page. I recently had a death in the family and have been so distracted I forgot to pay for this month’s hosting.

Anyway, I just wanted to assure you that The Host Fan is not closing. We’ve all seen websites suddenly come and go, but we’re not going anywhere. Things may be a little slow at the moment, but we’re still here as your #1 resource. :)

 


Character Index Additions

Have you ever had to rack your brain to remember what color hair Heidi has, or where Lily lived before the invasion? (The answers are white-blonde and Philadelphia, respectively.) You no longer have to flip through the book to find the details about your favorite characters from The Host, because we have updated our Character Index! We’ve scoured the book for every detail and have compiled them all for you. We have now listed every single human member of Jeb’s Cell. Although all we know about some of the Minor Characters are their names, for Secondary Characters we have listed vital information such as age, physical descriptions, family members, and their personal histories. Head on over, explore the biographies, and let us know what you think!

Good news all! I’m happy to report that the Chapter Index is finally now fully complete. We are proud to present to you a full list of all 60 chapters, plus the bonus chapter. For each chapter, we have a comprehensive summary, as well as a gorgeous banner to match.

The Chapter Index is a truly special part of our website as these summaries were written exclusively for the site. As far as we know, we are the only fansite dedicated to The Host that offers summaries for each individual chapter, so definitely check them out! Click on your favourite chapter and relive this amazing book!

 


Introducing The Host Fan Video Vault!

By popular demand, the very secret project we’ve been working on for awhile now: The Host Fan Video Vault! Located conveniently at http://thehostfan.com/video.

This section uses a program called PHPmotion which is a YouTube clone. Anyone can join, upload, watch, favorite, comment, rate, etc. Just click register to get started.

In the future, we will use this section to add interviews or clips relating to The Host movie. At present, we want to help the fan vidders and watchers. At the Video Vault, unlike YouTube, you don’t have ads popping up our your video and we won’t take down your music or close your account. Even if you’re only a watcher, it’s so much easier to have all the videos in one place instead of combing through all the other crap YouTube brings up when you search for “the host.”

Only way for this to be successful is for the vidders to upload their work, so go to the Vault and get uploading!

Another site addition: Species

Hey folks! This week brings another update to the Glossary Index. We have compiled and added information about the different alien species that reside on each respective planet in The Host universe. So, what was formerly the Planets page is now the Planets & Species page. Each individual planet page contains physical descriptions and additional information about that planet’s indigenous alien species. You can find the new additions directly below the existing planet description. For example, The Mists Planet’s page now also features detailed information about both Bears and Claw Beasts (yikes). Enjoy!

 


Social Media Round-up

We have a lovely new twitter layout to go along with the new twitter system. It may look off if you’re still using ‘old’ twitter, but hopefully it comes through normally on your feed pages.

We’ve synched our tumblr with our twitter and Facebook. Our official tumblr is updated every day, whether it be something small, like a quote, or something big, like fanart only found on tumblr. Not always exciting, but sometimes beautiful things are posted there that many of you lovely fans miss out on because you don’t have tumblr accounts. This way everyone will get to see the lovelies through their chosen social media outlet, and there will also be a slow but steady stream of The Host coming to your Facebook walls and twitter pages.

Also, another reminder about our current giveaway: Facebook! To win our second The Host HoboSkate merchandise giveaway, you just need to “like” our official Facebook page: The Host Fans.

Unfortunately since these beautiful decks are so heavy (and therefore costly for us to ship), we have to restrict this giveaway to residents of the US and Canada.

Today’s addition is to the Glossary Index section. We’ve created a new page devoted to all of the different Planets mentioned in The Host – including species, locations, planet histories and more.
